Supporting excellence in mathematics teaching & learning in Vermont and New Hampshire classrooms, schools and districts.

Our Initiatives

The Vermont Mathematics Initiative (VMI) is dedicated to improving mathematics teaching and learning through a variety of initiatives. 

These include:

  • The VMI Masters Program –  a comprehensive program dedicated to building systemic capacity by training current and aspiring K-12 mathematics teacher leaders.
  • Outreach and contribution to statewide initiatives in Vermont.
  • Targeted mathematics education support to schools and districts
  • A variety of recertification courses designed specifically for mathematics teachers

Partnerships

Partnering with teachers, schools, districts, state organizations, and institutions of higher learning to support deep mathematics learning for all students.

Mathematicians

Participants learn from mathematicians representing Northern Vermont University, St. Michael’s College, University of Vermont, Westport St. and, Middlebury College.

Math Educators

VMI award winning mathematics educators have decades of experience working in all areas of mathematics education.

Honoring Traditions

VMI is celebrating its 25th year and continues the traditions established by its founders of providing comprehensive professional development in mathematics with the overarching goal of systemic improvement in mathematics teaching and learning.

A comprehensive 3-year masters program focusing on effective mathematics instruction for all students, mathematics content, teacher leadership, and mathematics education research.

Since its inception in 1999, the VMI has been dedicated to improving student learning in mathematics for all students and to building leadership capacity in Vermont Schools.
